The Centre for Sustainable Development Goals was established on 1.1.2016 at AASC to guide, coordinate, train, spread awareness and understanding on issues related to SDGs across all levels and stakeholders in the State. The Transformation & Development (T&D) Department is the nodal department and one SDG cell has been created in the Department for aligning the State’s activities to SDGs.
The mandate of the Centre is as follows:
i) To act as a coordinating body with various Departments of the Government of Assam and other agencies, including Societies working under the Departments, UN agencies and seek guidance /support from State Innovation &Transformation Aayog and report to T &D Department for this purpose.
ii) To liaise and coordinate with all other agencies including the UN agencies and may seek the guidance /support of State Innovation &Transformation Aayog, as and when required. All departments are required to extend full support to the Centre for SDGs and accord high priority to the Centre’s requests and also to the training programmes organized by the CSDG.
iii) To convene conclaves, conferences and workshops on SDG related issues and also meetings at Government level, as and when required.
During 2021-22, the focus of the CSDG has been on capacity building courses for government officials. T&D Department, Government of Assam, being the nodal department for SDGs, look into monitoring implementation of SDGs with inputs from other departments.
5 (five) trainings were conducted by the CSDG during 2021-22 and a total of 118 officers were trained. Trainings included (i) Capacity Building Training for field level officials on SDGs (2 Courses) (ii) Environment, Development & Sustainability (iii) SDGs: Inclusive & Sustainable Development for all and (iv) Orientation-cum-Training on SDGs for Handloom & Textile Department, Government of Assam.
