The library of the Assam Administrative Staff College had its modest beginning in the year 1961 with a collection of about 5000 books. Now the library is one of the major knowledge resources in the North East with a collection of around 50,000 books.

The existing collection of books in the library covers major fields such as literature, science & technology, environment and sustainable development, law, management and leadership development, information technology, social sciences, human rights, public administration including central and state governmental Acts, rules & regulations, popular fiction and best-sellers. The library has a rich reference section consisting of different kinds of encyclopaedia, handbooks, reports as well as a special section on studies of the North East Region.

It also procures general knowledge books and Pre-Examination Training course books under Pre-Examination Training Centre (PETC) for aspirants to the Civil Services. The library subscribes to a number of newspapers and magazines, including the e-journal J-stor which can be accessed from computers in the library. The library is updated with periodic purchase of new titles. The Assam Administrative Staff College library will shortly function from the new extension wing of the administrative building , which has been constructed keeping in mind the functions of the library as a knowledge and resource centre, with an audio-visual room, group study rooms and digital archive room. Members can avail the library study areas, as well as the comfort of cosy reading areas with large picture windows overlooking the gardens outside. The library hopes to create a space where members engage with information - process it, reflect on it, have conversations about it, and develop new ideas and opportunities as a result of it.

There are plans to hold occasional events such as book readings by well-known authors, discussions, film screenings, etc. The dates for such events will be uploaded in our website in due course.
